A collocation is two or more words that often go together：コロケーションとは二つ以上の単語を組み合わせた言葉のことで、分かりやすく言うと”自然な語のつながり”のことです。
（１）chair a meeting：議長を務める
If you chair a meeting, you are the person in charge of it：議長を務める場合、その責任者。
＜Sample Sentences（例文）＞
a.He was about to chair a business meeting in Washington.
彼はワシントンであるビジネス会議の議長を務めたらしいよ。
b.Can I ask John to chair the meeting this afternoon?
ジョンに午後の会議の議長を務めるか頼んでくれない？
c.In Hong Kong, I was asked to chair a meeting of delegates from all over the world.
香港で、世界から集まる代表者の会議の議長を頼まれた。
（２）come to the point：本題に入る、端的に言う
To get to the important part of something：要点に触れる
＜Sample Sentences（例文）＞
a.He has been talking a long time. I wish he would come to the point.
彼は長話をしている。彼が本題に入ってくれないかと願うばかりだ。
b.I don’t want to waste time. Please come to the point of your report.
時間を無駄にしたくない。レポートの要点に触れて下さい。
c.Thanks for that long introduction. Now please come to the point.
長時間の発表をありがとうございました。では、要点に触れていきましょう。
（３）lay off staff：社員を一時解雇する
To put an end to someone’s employment：従業員を辞めさせる
＜Sample Sentences（例文）＞
a.I’m afraid the company will have to lay off staff next month.
来月会社から一時解雇されるのではないかと心配だ。
b.ABC Company is laying off staff for the second time this year.
ABC社が今年二回目の一時解雇をしているらしいよ。
c.We need to lay off staff in order to cut cost.
我々は経費削減をするために従業員の一時解雇をする必要がある。
（４）go bankrupt：破産する、倒産する
(of a business or a person) having no money and unable to pay one’s debts：（事業や人の）資金がなくなること、借金を返済できなくなること
＜Sample Sentences（例文）＞
a.His father went bankrupt and the family had to sell their home.
彼の父は破産し、家族は家を売却しなければならなくなった。
b.The company is going bankrupt after only a year in business.
事業を始めてたった一年で会社は破産しそうだ。
c.I will go bankrupt if you keep asking me money!
もし君がお金について聞き続けたら、僕は破産するだろう。
（５）close a deal：取引、商談をまとめる
to end a negotiation by reaching an agreement：取引、商談、取り決めで合意に至る
＜Sample Sentences（例文）＞
a.This afternoon we will close the deal with Jones Company.
午後はジョンズ会社との商談をまとめます。
b.You need to give us your final decision so we can close the deal.
君に最終決定してもらいたい。そうすれば我々も商談をまとめることができる。
c.Have you closed a deal with that small firm in New York?
ニューヨークの子会社の取引はまとまった？
