A VISIT AT THE DOCTOR (Dialogue)

Scene 1 シーン１
Patient: Good morning. Doctor Stevens?
患者：おはようございます。スティーブン先生ですか？
Doctor: Yes, please come in.
医師：そうです。中にお越しください。
Doctor: Please have a seat.
医師：お掛けください。
Patient: Thanks.
患者：ありがとうございます。
Doctor: May I have your name, please?
医師：お名前をお伺いしてよろしいですか？
Patient: My name is Jenny Smith.
患者：ジェニー・スミスです。
Doctor: Come again?
医師：もう一度お願い致します。
Patient: Jenny Smith. Call me Jenny.
患者：ジェニー・スミスです。ジェニーと呼んでください。
Doctor: Okay.
医師：かしこまりました。
Doctor: So what have you come in for today, Jenny?
医師：ジェニーさん、本日はいかがなさいましたか？
Patient: I’m feeling ill. I’ve got quite a bad cough.
患者：気分が悪いです。かなり悪い咳が止まりません。
Doctor: Do you have a fever?
医師：熱はありますか？
Patient: No.
患者：ありません。
Doctor: I see. How long have you had these symptoms?
医師：わかりました。いつからそのような症状は出ていますか？
Patient: I’ve had the cough for almost two weeks now. But these past few days, I’ve been feeling really sick.
患者：約2週間です。そしてここ２、３日とても具合が悪いです。
Doctor: Do you have any other problems aside from the cough?
医師：咳以外に何かありますか？
Patient: Well, I’ve got a headache and a little bit of diarrhea.
患者：そうですね。頭痛があって少し下痢気味です。
Doctor: Do you produce any phlegm when coughing?
医師：咳をする際に痰などは出ますか？
Patient: Sometimes. But usually it’s just dry.
患者：時々。ですが、通常は普通の咳です。
Doctor: Does your head and nose feel stuffy and blocked?
医師：頭が重かったり、鼻が詰まったりはありますか？
Patient: Yes, Doctor.
患者：はい。
Doctor: How about allergies? Do you have any allergies?
医師：アレルギーはありますか？
Patient: Uhm, not that I’m aware of.
患者：うーん、私の知る限りではありません。
Doctor: OK. Now let’s have a look. Could you please open your mouth and say ‘ah’?
医師：わかりました。では、こちらを見てください。口を開けて「あー」と言ってください。
Scene 2 シーン２
Doctor: All right. I’d like to move on to some questions about your past medical history if that’s okay.
医師：大丈夫です。もしよろしければ、あなたの過去の病気について聞きたいのですが。
Patient: Yeah, sure.
患者：もちろんです。
Doctor: First, have you had any major childhood illnesses?
医師：では最初に、幼い頃大きな病気にかかりましたか？
Patient: I’m not sure, but I think I never had any serious illnesses when I was a child.
患者：確実ではないのですが、幼い頃には一度も重病にかかっていないと思います。
Doctor: Yes, okay. I’m making notes of that. Do you have asthma or chronic breathing problems?
医師：わかりました。メモしています。喘息や慢性呼吸の問題はありますか？
Patient: Sometimes, yes.
患者：時々あります。
Doctor: Do you smoke?
医師：喫煙ですか？
Patient: Yes, I smoke about half a pack a day but I’m trying to quit.
患者：はい、１日に半箱吸いますが禁煙しようと試みてます。
Doctor: Uhuh. How long have you been smoking?
医師：うーん、どのぐらい喫煙されてますか？
Patient: About three years now. I took it up when I was 20 years old. I’m 23 now.
患者：３年ほど経ちます。２０歳の時から吸い始めました。今２３歳です。
Doctor: I see. Thanks for giving me that information.
I would like to do more examinations on you. Is it okay with you?
医師：なるほど。教えていただき有難うございます。
もう少し検査をしたいのですが、よろしいでしょうか？
Patient: Yes, it’s okay.
患者：はい、大丈夫です。
Doctor: : Let’s go to the examination room.
I’d like to listen to your lungs. Please take a deep breath.
Now I wanna check if you have swollen glands around your neck and shoulders.
Now I’ll examine your abdominal area. Please lie down.
I’m done. Thank you.
医師：それでは、診察室に行きましょう。
聴診しますので、深呼吸してください。
首や肩周りのリンパ腺が腫れていないか確認しますね。
続いて、腹部を検査するので横になってください。
終わりました。ありがとうございます。
Patient: So what’s wrong with me, Doctor?
患者：そう、何か問題はありましたか？
Doctor: I think there are few things that might have caused your cough. A cough related to upper respiratory infection could be for one. It’s the biggest possibility we’ve got now. Asthma, acid reflux, or other infections could also be the cause. I’ll be running some blood tests and chest X ray on you. You may need additional tests later, if I’m not satisfied with the results. In the meantime, I’ll give you some medications to ease out your cough. Do you have any questions?
医師：あなたの咳の原因はいくつかあると思います。ひとつは上気道感染症に関係があるでしょう。今わかる時点でこれが一番の可能性です。喘息や酸逆流やその他の感染症も原因として考えられます。採血と胸のＸ線を取りますね。結果によっては後ほど、追加で検査をしていただく必要があります。咳のお薬も後でお渡しします。何かご質問はありますか？
Patient: None for now. Thank you very much, Doctor.
患者：今の時点ではありません。ありがとうございます。
Doctor: You are welcome.
医師：お大事にしてください。
